October 13, 2024 - NYC (Brooklyn) Mayor Eric Adams and NY Police Interim Police Commissioner Tom Donlon Delivers Remarks at Street Co-Naming in Memory of Detective Troy Patterson  On April 29, 2023, the DEA lost a very special member: Det. Troy Patterson, who was shot in the head while trying to thwart being robbed on January 16, 1990. His survival at the time of the shooting was deemed extremely precarious. The bullet passed through his right ear, went through his brain, and lodged between his left ear and his skull. Doctors predicted that if Patterson lived, he would be blind. For 33 years, Det. Patterson remained in a catatonic state, but remained assigned to the NYPD. Det. Patterson’s life and death serve as a constant reminder of the horrific toll that gun violence takes on our profession, on our City, on our State, and on our nation

August 20, 2023 - Brooklyn NY FDNY investigating Williamsburg fire that destroyed nine stores, and injured 10 FDNY members Huge flames destroyed several businesses in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.

A massive plume of smoke could be seen rising from the 6-alarm fire on Lee Avenue in Williamsburg on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters arrived at the scene four minutes after the initial call just before noon Sunday. Officials say the flames appeared to start in a chocolate shop and spread to at least nine nearby retail stores. Firefighting efforts were complicated because most of the stores were locked at the time. "We used saws to cut the gates and we were able to get in. They had heavy fire throughout the building by the time they got inside. It was a challenging fire," FDNY Chief John Hodgens said. The fire was under control by 3:45 p.m. Sunday and the cause is still under investigation.
